Currency of Relationships

Just got home from a really awesome and thought-provoking discussion on the “Currency of Relationships”. Relationships, as we all are aware are a commodity of mutual exchange between two individuals. Most relationships are based on the give and take principle and there is usually an underlying understanding of this principle. One of the ways we learn to build strong relationships are by learning that it’s the soul that is eternal and not the body and it is not about physical intimacy but spiritual transcendence. Even relationships that aren’t conjugal need to have this core principle as it’s base in order to last.

One of the best parts of the presentations was when the slide on Mother Teresa’s ideals was shared. I’ve seen them before, however, seeing them again while discussing relationships was a rather rude awakening of how much each and every individual in this world needs to invest to understand and appreciate the fruits of self awareness. Here are the ideals/principles:

People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives.  Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies. Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you.  Be honest and sincere anyway.

What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight.  Create anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous.  Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, will often be forgotten.  Do good anyway.

Give the best you have, and it will never be enough.  Give your best anyway.

In the final analysis, it is between you and God.  It was never between you and them anyway.

Amazing. If only I could implement some of these things on a daily basis instead of having a fleeting thoughts about of doing things occasionally.
